When you first open Snapfire, it automatically searches your computer for pictures in common photo folders. You can then click "Find Photos" to import photos from other folders. Find Photos also allows you to search your photos and browse by date. Unfortunately, tagging is not a feature in the free Snapfire version. Snapfire can search existing keyword tags in your photos, but there is no way to add or edit tags without upgrading to Snapfire Plus.Snapfire's photo downloader can automatically import pictures from a camera and display a quick slide show to review your new photos. Snapfire also imports video clips and offers a convenient feature to preview your video clips directly in the organizer without opening a separate window. You can also grab frames from your video clips to save as still images and choose the frame you'd like for the thumbnail image.
For enhancing photos, Snapfire offers just the basics, which is enough for a free program. The Photo Doctor, which identifies photos that could benefit from adjustment, is a nice idea, but would be better if it marked photos in the thumbnail view as well as the full photo view. Snapfire includes quite a lot of templates for arranging photos and text to print at home. And you can share your photos by email as attachments embedded photos or as a Snapfire show.
Snapfire is well-designed and easy to use, but the lack of features in the free version will disappoint all but the most nascent beginners.
